Change dashboards with your coding agent

You can build and change dashboards two ways: in the app, or by asking your coding agent. The agent works through the Plexus MCP server, so it sees your real devices, metrics and dashboards.

Connect your agent

In Claude Code, run this once in your project's terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http plexus https://app.plexus.company/mcp

In Cursor, Codex or another agent, add https://app.plexus.company/mcp as an MCP server.

The first time the agent uses it, your browser opens. Sign in and approve. You do this once.

Ask for what you want

Say it in plain words:

Add a battery voltage chart for rover-01 to the rover dashboard.
Make a dashboard for the three pumps: flow, pressure and motor temperature for each.
On the bench dashboard, show the last hour and put the temperature tiles on the top row.

The agent can:

  • list your devices and connections and the metrics each device has sent
  • list your dashboards and read any one of them
  • add, change, move and remove panels, and create new dashboards
  • check a change without saving it, so you can look before it writes

Every panel type and every setting the app's panel editor has is available to the agent. When you ask for a value Plexus doesn't offer, such as a colour that isn't in the picker, the change is refused and the agent shows you the values you can choose from.

Changes appear in the app as soon as they are saved. You can keep editing the same dashboard in the app.

Bring a Grafana dashboard

Give the agent a Grafana export file and ask it to import it:

Import grafana/pump-station.json into Plexus.

It lists the Grafana datasources the file uses, asks which of your connections each one maps to, shows you what will carry over, and then creates the dashboard. The rules are the same as importing in the app. See Import Grafana dashboards.

Not set up yet?

The same connection sets Plexus up. Tell the agent "set up Plexus". See the Quickstart.
